Former US vice-president and Nobel Prize laureate Al Gore has received the 2007 Göteborg Award for Sustainable Development. The award, which is 1 million Swedish kronor (about 110,000 euros) is administrated and funded by a coalition of the City of Gothenburg and 12 companies, one of which is SKF. The prize was awarded to Gore “for his relentless commitment to put an end to the climate crisis by increasing public awareness about global warming.”

At the prize ceremony, which took place in Gothenburg in January 2008, Gore said: “It’s hard to imagine that a change in our thinking could bring about a profound transformation in the way we pursue our civilization. But it can.”

This was the eighth Göteborg Award. Its purpose is to stimulate and encourage strategic work for national and international sustainable development.
