ZDAS, a Czech supplier of rolling mill equipment, has recently produced a rotary shear for very thin metal sheets. The rotary shear is fitted with CARB™ toroidal roller bearings. CARB was selected to take advantage of its features for precise adjustment of the clearance between the shearing blades.

The shear consists of two rotating cylinders with integrated shearing blades. To adjust the clearance of the blades, the upper cylinder must be able to move axially by ±3 millimetres. CARB offers a technical and economical solution, as it accommodates axial displacement of the shaft with negligible friction, without inducing any thrust loads on the bearing.
