El Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) es un laboratorio científico y tecnológico gestionado para el departamento de Energía estadounidense. Los científicos e ingenieros que trabajan en el ORNL llevan a cabo proyectos de investigación básica y aplicada, y de desarrollo para adquirir conocimientos científicos y desarrollar soluciones tecnológicas que fortalezcan el liderazgo en ámbitos científicos clave, permitan mayor disponibilidad de energía limpia y abundante, mejoren y preserven el medio ambiente, y aumenten la seguridad.
La Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) es una fuente de neutrones basada en un acelerador que se está construyendo en Oak Ridge. La instalación estará lista en 2006.
