The Reliability Maintenance InstituteTM has added five new courses to help plants capitalize on the latest advances in precision maintenance products and procedures. To achieve maximum productivity, the machines in today’s manufacturing and process plants utilize state-of-the-art technology to keep them running at very high speeds and performing within very tight tolerances. As a result, the level of maintenance used to keep them running smoothly must be equally sophisticated.

To help plant managers, supervisors and executives keep up to date on the latest advances in precision maintenance, the Reliability Maintenance Institute – the training arm of SKF Service – has added five new titles to its list of courses. Some of these courses represent a continuation of an existing course, while others address completely new topics and techniques.

According to Joe Bruno, manger of reliability maintenance trainingg for SKF, “These new courses offer practical, hands-on training in a variety of state-of-the-art reliability products and techniques. They represent our ongoing commitment to support both product and technology advances in the marketplace.”

The new Reliability Maintenance Institute courses for the year 2001 are:

Intro to Machine Analyst
Machine Analyst is the next generation in predictive maintenance analysis software. In this course, participants will learn how to install the program, create a database, create a data collection route, display and analyze graphic plots and generate and print data reports. (Course length: 3 days.)

Lubricant Analysis for Equipment Condition Monitoring
This course features a “hands-on” approach to understanding and managing lubricant analysis programs for equipment condition monitoring. Topics covered include: wear and failure mechanisms; effects of additives, contaminants and lubricant mixing on lubricant performance; on-site analysis and evaluation of oil samples; proper sampling techniques; and interpretation of laboratory results. (Course length: 2 days)

Practical Applications in Bearing Lubrication
This course is designed to teach participants all the skills needed to choose, apply and maintain lubricants in bearing applications plant-wide. Topics include: lubrication fundamentals; grease lubrication; oil lubrication; and the proper lubrication and relubrication methods for pillow blocks, ball bearings, roller bearings, sealed bearings and spherical bearings. (Course length: 1–1/2 days.)

Field and Shop Balancing Workshop
This course offers hands-on training in the practical skills needed to balance rotating machinery to precision levels, both in the field and in the shop. Case histories will illustrate balancing rotors of all types, from narrow overhung blowers or impellers to long narrow rolls and multistage pumps. (Course length: 3 days.)

Advanced Machinery Inspection and Evaluation
Participants will learn techniques and procedures for diagnosing and correcting more complex rotating machine problems. Topics include: review of basic machinery inspection, advanced signal conditioning, using advanced signal techniques, AC induction motor analysis, advanced balancing techniques, advanced gear analysis, and advanced pump analysis. (Course length: 5 days.)
