Mounting instructions online
SKF is launching a new Web-based service with mounting and dismounting instructions in eight languages for its main range of bearings.
At the site – www.skf.com/mount – users will first choose among eight languages. Then they will be prompted to enter the specific bearing designation number and will be given a choice of mounting methods – for example, mechanical or oil injection. Clicking further will bring users to user-friendly instructions for mounting or dismounting. The site, which is powered by a unique software system (patent pending), will also provide proper information on lubricants and tools.
This service was conceived following a global survey on customer demand for technical service and information. The site is aimed primarily at customers who repair their own mechanical systems. Large manufacturing groups usually have appropriate expertise on their assembly lines or are provided with application-specific mounting and dismounting instructions directly by SKF.
“It is a question of spreading information,” says project manager Bengt Engström. “At first we thought about including a booklet in each bearing box, but that was unrealistic. With the Internet, service is available around the clock and around the globe. It’s a way to make life easier for the shop floor worker. Proper fitting with the right tools gives the bearing a longer service life.”
