Gone are the days when there was a common distrust of companies that wanted to invest in or sponsor research made by external organizations such as universities, research institutes, etc. No longer are scientists held in less esteem for wanting to help businesses develop better and more sustainable products. Protests from sceptics have dwindled, and instead there is a growing understanding and appreciation of the many mutual advantages cooperation between academia and industry brings.

Although SKF has its own research facilities and experts, supporting external research projects is a strategically important investment. Having the eyes and minds of PhD students and post-doctoral specialists focusing on gaining new know-ledge related to bearing technology is invaluable, and for the external researchers, SKF’s bearing expertise adds new entry points in their work.

Besides many local collaborations with universities worldwide, SKF is today funding two new University Technology Centres in the UK, one at Cambridge University and one at Imperial College in London.

We are also striving for a cover that really attracts attention. The content, however, will still be of the same high quality that has been the trademark of Evolution since its launch in 1994.
