2004 marks not only the 10th anniversary of Evolution, it is also 10 years since traffic began moving in the Channel Tunnel between Calais in France and Folkestone in Britain.

The tunnel has established itself as the market leader for cross-channel travel – the choice of 2.3 million motorists and 1.3 million truckers in 2003. All in all, more than 100 million people have travelled through the Channel Tunnel during its 10 years of operation.

Pampered pooches are also a familiar site for cross-channel travellers, thanks to the pet travel scheme run by the operator Eurotunnel. In the summer of 2004, more than 4,000 dogs and cats crossed the channel. And thanks to new regulations that came into force in July 2004, now even a pet ferret can travel the shuttle train.
