After a journey of almost two years, the Swedish sailing ship Götheborg arrived back in her home port. On June 9, 2007, the ship and its crew were welcomed to Gothenburg by the ship’s protector, King Carl XVI Gustaf, its godmother Queen Silvia and Chinese President Hu Jintao and his wife, as well as thousands of spectators.

The ship left Gothenburg on October 2, 2005, for a voyage mirroring the route of ships sailing to Shanghai in the 18th century. En route, the ship has visited ports in Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Indonesia, China, India, Egypt, France and Britain, attracting considerable attention at each stop.

Götheborgis a replica of a Swedish sailing ship that was built in 1738 and sank outside Gothenburg in 1745. Work on the replica ship began in 1996, and SKF has been one of the main partners in the project. SKF has also supplied equipment for the ship, including SKF Multilog Condition Monitoring Unit (CMU) and SKF @ptitude Industrial Decision Support System.
