SKF has published a cookbook, Hot & Cold, as part of an advertising campaign for bearings for high temperatures, which are often used in food processing applications such as ovens and refrigeration equipments. The cookbook features hot Mexican recipes and cold Swedish dishes.

The book was “only logical,” says Jan Jonsson, marketing communications manager in SKF’s Service and Industrial divisions.“The bearings for high temperatures are made for hot and cold applications. They are manufactured in ‘hot’ Mexico and ‘cold’ Sweden, and one of the main market segments for the bearings is the food and beverage processing industry.”

In a bearing for high temperatures the rolling elements are separated by graphite elements – an excellent lubricant. Graphite powder is rubbed off and forms a thin layer on the rolling elements and the running surfaces of the outer and inner rings. Bearings for high temperatures can handle temperatures as low as -150 °C and as high as +350 °C.

Sopa de ajo (garlic soup)
This is not nearly as strong as you might imagine, since the garlic is first sautéed and then boiled.
Serves 4.

10 cloves garlic
4 eggs
1/2 tablespoon flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 litre chicken stock,
Tabasco sauce
Salt & pepper
Croutons
1 tablespoon grated cheese
1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Peel, chop and crush the garlic cloves. In a large saucepan, gently sauté the crushed garlic with butter and flour. When the garlic is transparent, add chicken stock and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain through a colander and season with salt, pepper and a few drops of Tabasco. Return the mixture to the stove. As soon as the soup begins to boil again, gently slide the eggs into the liquid. When the eggs are cooked, the soup is ready. Pour it over the croutons and garnish with grated cheese and chopped parsley.
