To ensure proper mounting of large bearings, SKF is launching a new SensorMount system.

The SensorMount system includes a sensor, factory-fitted to the bearing, a hydraulic pump and a meter that displays the actual value of the grip.

Sold as an added feature, SensorMount will first be available for taper bore spherical roller bearings and CARB with outer diameters larger than 600 mm. It will be available for smaller bearings by the end of 2002.
Existing mounting methods for large bearings usually are manual and require highly skilled personnel. Incorrect mounting of bearings either damages the shaft and bearing housing or reduces the bearing’s service life.
The patented SensorMount system, however, guarantees the correct mounting of a bearing, and thus avoids damage to the machinery. Mounting time is also substantially reduced.
The sensor on the bearing follows how much the internal clearance has been reduced during mounting and ensures that the grip between the bearing and the shaft is optimal.
SensorMount is targeted for customers in the paper, mining and minerals-processing industries, among others.
