Handling large or medium-sized bearings correctly and safely can be a problem for maintenance engineers, due to the considerable weight of the bearings. One major difficulty is to safely move the bearing from its packaging to its mounting position on a shaft. Another is to position the bearing correctly for placement on the shaft. These tasks are time-consuming and potentially unsafe, the latter both for personnel involved and the bearing itself.
The SKF Bearing Handling Tool is a simple solution to these problems, and is suitable for bearings weighing up to 500 kilograms. The tool consists of a steel band, with two handles and two anti-rotation plates, which fits around the outer ring. By turning the two handles, the Bearing Handling Tool is tightly fitted around the bearing. The two anti-rotation plates fix the inner ring and the rolling elements, preventing them from swivelling during the process. The tool and bearing can then be lifted into position safely, easily and quickly.
Since it can withstand temperatures of up to 160 degrees Celsius, the Bearing Handling Tool can remain around the bearing while being heated using an induction heater.
