In May 2009, SKF inaugurated new US headquarters in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. The new building is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified for commercial interiors and includes a range of designs and technologies for environmentally sustainable construction.

The building has a white roof with a high solar reflectance index (SRI) to reduce the urban heat island effect. It is equipped to use 44 percent less water than a building with conventional fixtures, and its high-end lighting performs 25 percent more efficiently than conventional office lighting. The roof is prepared for future solar panels and, if available, a plan to purchase 50 percent of the power from renewable sources during the next two years.

In order to create an exposure-free environment for employees, all effort has been made to provide the utmost in indoor air quality, including the use of building materials with low or no urea/formaldehyde or volatile organic compound content and utilization of a “green” approach as regards furniture and housekeeping .
