SKF has won a large railway contract for its new generation of axlebox bearing units from Siemens. The lightweight and compact bearings will be mounted on Siemens’ new Desiro train concept, for which it already has received orders from railway operators in Germany, Greece, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
The Desiro train represents a new modular concept for modern passenger trains that can meet the specific needs of long-distance or suburban traffic.
So far, SKF has delivered 4,800 axle boxes to Siemens SGP in Austria. The units offer lower life cycle costs and longer maintenance intervals. SKF is the world’s leading
bearing supplier to the railway industry.
