The use of CARBTM as a non-locating bearing in a shredding machine has proved a wise decision for CSR Sugar Inkerman Mill, Australia.
A shredder mills fibres from sugar cane using rotating hammers. The rotor weight, including the hammers, is 16 tonnes, and it operates at a speed of 1,000 r/min. The bearing is mounted directly onto a tapered shaft in a plummer block housing.
CARBTM is able to take up any axial displacement without inducing thrust loads. Outer ring creep and subsequent wear on the housing is eliminated and bearing life increased.
