Bearings and seals for Ford’s new Mondeo

Related Content

Virtually all the major mechanical systems on Ford’s new Mondeo are equipped with either bearings or seals or both from the SKF Group. Over the production life of Ford’s new Mondeo, SKF will supply over EUR 100 million (USD 90 million) worth of products.
All four vehicle corners are fitted with SKF hub bearing units, the front incorporating magnetised encoders for the ABS and TCS systems within the seal assembly. The rear units feature SKF’s latest design enhancements, including pre-assembled active speed sensors.
The front struts are fitted with MacPherson strut bearing units with integrated upper spring seat. A special SKF design of the bearings provides significantly improved friction behaviour, with improved driving performance. Seals and bearings are supplied for the steering arrangement and the power-assisted steering pump.
A range of customised bearings is fitted in the gearbox. Each bearing has been engineered to meet the transmission’s specific requirements. The 2.5-litre V6 engine carries front- and rear-crank seals and camshaft seals from SKF’s sealing business, Chicago Rawhide.
The number of different SKF products on the new Mondeo reflects well the breadth of the Group’s product and engineering offerings to this highly competitive global market.
