Spanish Gamesa chooses SKF
Gamesa, a Spanish wind turbine manufacturer, has chosen SKF as a main bearings supplier. Gamesa is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of wind turbines. The bearings covered by the SKF agreement are spherical roller bearings in two different sizes. The bearings will be manufactured at the plant in Göteborg, Sweden. The agreement also includes technical cooperation and joint projects aimed at improving Gamesa’s productivity.
Echesa, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gamesa that manufactures gearboxes for wind turbines, has also selected SKF as its main bearings supplier. This contract covers spherical and cylindrical roller bearings, to be manufactured in Göteborg and Schweinfurt, Germany.
“In a very short time we have managed to secure orders valued at about EUR 27 million within the wind turbine business,” says Christer Gyberg, president of SKF Industrial Division. “It shows that our new concept, building teams who have a complete knowledge of the whole application and who work together with the customer to find the right solutions, is paying off.
