Sweet success II
An SKF toroidal bearing, CARBTM , in a hot gas fan at Prosperine Sugar Mill, North Queensland, Australia, has also proved successful. The fan is critical in its operation to evacuate flue gas from a boiler. Using CARBTM as a non-locating bearing has led to increased bearing life. It also allows axial displacement without inducing thrust loads on the bearing.
A spherical roller bearing serves as locating bearing in the bearing arrangement. CARBTM was chosen as non-locating bearing because it takes up the axial displacement of the fan shaft inside the bearing under very low friction.
